West Midlands: tram services suspended indefinitely after fault found
A fault discovered amongst a fleet of trams has suspended indefinitely the tram service throughout the West Midlands.
West Midlands Metro said all of its 21 trams have now been removed for inspection.
Operators say the decision is “precautionary” and “had not been taken lightly.”
Extra local bus and train services have been put in place for passengers seeking an alternative travel.
West Midlands Metro has apologised and said inspections were underway to resume service as soon as possible.
Metro tickets will be accepted on the following services:
- The number 74 and 79 National Express buses between Wolverhampton, West Bromwich and Birmingham
- West Midlands Railway and Avanti train services between Wolverhampton and Birmingham
It has not been confirmed what the fault is, or the number of trams affected but Midland Metro Ltd said that staff or customer safety had never been compromised.
