Signals in data, but 21 June reopening still on track – Jenrick
Communities Secretary Robert Jenrick said, “there’s nothing today to lead us to believe we can’t move forward with 21 June reopening.”
“But I think you can hear from the tone and the decisions we’re making in other respects, we’re applying an added degree of caution in the days ahead.”
The 21 June reopening is the official date for the next easing in England’s lockdown.

“We’re reviewing the data,” says Jenrick. “There are some signals that we’re seeing within it. But there’s nothing at the moment that suggests that we won’t be able to move forward with that.”
Speaking to BBC Radio 4’s Today programme, Jenrick was asked if curbs such as working from home would stay. “Well, there are options that are clearly available to the government.”
The roadmap for England’s restrictions sets out “what would be expected to happen at the next stage and we want to try to stick to that if we possibly can”.
“But of course we keep things under review, and we’re also asking people to continue to exercise caution in their daily lives – what can we do as citizens to follow the rules as far as we can – if we don’t need to go to the office, we don’t do unnecessary trips in.”
He urged the public to get their Covid-19 vaccine.
