Princess Diana: Dresses go on display at Kensington Palace
Princess Diana’s wedding dress is going on display at her former home at Kensington Palace.
Princes William and Harry have loaned the dress to an exhibition – which begins a month before Diana, Princess of Wales would have turned 60.
In July 1981 Diana married Prince Charles at St Paul’s Cathedral, her wedding dress featured a 25ft sequin-encrusted train that filled the aisle of St Paul’s. Diana’s dress was designed by David and Elizabeth Emanuel.
The organisers of the exhibition say the dress is “now among the most famous in bridal history”.
Diana’s dress was very much an early 1980s style – fitted bodice overlaid with panels of antique Carrickmacross lace, large puffed sleeves with bows and deep ruffles.
As well as the dress, Prince William and Prince Harry also loaned their mother’s going-away dresses to the show.
The exhibition looks at designing outfits for royal clients and is being held at the Kensington Palace Orangery.
It opens to the public on 3 June and continues on to early January 2022.
