50 more Partygate fines issued for Downing Street
The Met Police have issued more than 50 new fines for breaches of Covid rules in No 10 and other government buildings – in the latest round of Partygate fines.
Last month, more than 50 fixed penalty notices were handed out – including to the prime minister, his wife Carrie and chancellor Rishi Sunak.
Neither PM Boris nor his wife Carrie were fined in this round.
These new penalties are believed to be over a Christmas party in December 2020 which the PM did not attend.
No 10 has promised it will reveal any further fines the prime minister receives.
The Metropolitan Police are investigating 12 gatherings, at least three of which the PM is known to have attended.
As he arrived for a special cabinet meeting taking place at a pottery in Staffordshire, the PM was asked if he was “shocked” at the scale of law-breaking in No 10.
“We’ll have plenty to say about that when the thing’s finished,” he replied.
The Met said the investigation “remains live”, further fines are expected to follow but its not known when.
