Commuter chaos as four-mile stretch of motorway shut after lorry fire
Daily Express says COMMUTERS faced severe delays today as a lorry fire closed part of a busy motorway.
Four miles of the A1 (M) southbound were closed between junction 59 for Newton Aycliffe, County Durham, and junction 58 for Darlington in the same county. The HGV caught alight at approximately 2.20am and emergency services had been working to tackle the flames for hours.
Luckily, the driver managed to escape uninjured.
Southbound delays were heavy and a diversion was in place, Chronicle Live reports.
Traffic was back to junction 60 for Sedgefield, County Durham, and was diverted at junction 59 onto the A167 through Darlington.
