Despite City dominating the first half against Wolves and going into the break up 1-0 up, Wolves managed to switch it up a gear in the second half and even equalised.

However, City’s superiority prevailed, with the league leaders scoring 3 times after the 80th minute, giving them the victory in this Premier League fixture.

    City dominant from first whistle

This Premier League match between Manchester City and Wolves felt more like a training game for City from the get-go.

The first City goal came inside the first quarter of an hour after a superb Rodri pass started it.

The Spaniard’s long-range pass from near half-way found an unmarked Riyad Mahrez inside the right side of Wolves’ box.

After touching it down, the City winger quickly squared it, aiming for Raheem Sterling inside the 6-yard box.

However, Wolves defender Leander Dendoncker got to it first, but in doing so, put the ball into his own net.

Wolves’ first touch inside the City box was their goal

In the second half, whilst City were still dominating, Wolves managed an equaliser in the 61st minute with their first shot of the game.

João Moutinho’s free-kick was swung into a dangerous area inside the City box.

With Rúben Dias keeping him onside, Wolves captain Conor Coady got onto the end of the well-placed free-kick.

Coady’s diving header from just beyond the 6-yard box is out of reach from City keeper Ederson, nestling into the bottom right corner – the defender’s first goal since April 2018.

Gabriel Jesus smashed in City’s second

Despite Wolves looking more threatening in the second half, City scored their second goal of the game and retook the lead in the 80th minute.

After Mahrez’s through ball to Kyle Walker inside the right-hand side of the box, the right back squared it into the 6-yard box.

Walker’s pass came off the back of Dendoncker’s foot and set up Jesus, who span and nailed the ball on target, deflecting off Dendoncker en route, before finding the back of the net.

Not a night to remember for Dendoncker.

    Mahrez deservedly scored City’s third

City scored their third of the game after a nice finish by Mahrez in the 90th minute.

After City were pressing Wolves on the edge of their box, the ball was won back by Rodri from Owen Otasowie.

His pass into the box found substitute Ilkay Gündogan, who passed it to Sterling on the edge of the box.

Sterling is tackled by Nélson Semedo, but the ball rolls right into the path of Mahrez inside the box, who placed it into the bottom left corner past Rui Patrício.

Jesus scored his second in injury time

Manchester City then scored their fourth of the game and added the icing onto the cake in the 93rd minute.

Gündogan’s shot from outside the box was heading into the bottom right corner but for a good save by Patrício.

However, Jesus was quick to react and followed it up, having no trouble smashing the ball into the Wolves net.

The goal was originally given as offside, but VAR confirmed that Jesus was kept just onside by Coady.

This win for Manchester City makes it 21 wins in a row (!) and puts them 15 points clear of their Manchester rivals.

Meanwhile this defeat for Wolves keeps them in the bottom half of the table in 12th place.
