2023 Women’s World Cup: England boost as Keira Walsh returns to training
Keira Walsh – widely considered one of the world’s best midfielders – has returned to team training after a knee injury saw her stretchered off in the England win over Denmark.
In the game against Denmark, Walsh was stretchered off and later seen on crutches, raising fears she was the lastest-high profile player to suffer an ACL injury.
But an update a few days later confirmed it wasn’t an ACL injury but they did not confirm what was wrong or how serious the injury was.
Now she’s been spotted training with the team, it will be a real boost to the Lionesses.
Fears England would struggle crept in as soon as Walsh was stretchered off. But great tactical decisions from boss Sarina Weigman, saw England come into their own in their last group game – beating China 6-1.
Despite the great performance from the Lionesses, if Walsh were to return to the team, it would be a real boost for the squad.
Whilst it’s unclear if she’ll be included in the Nigeria last-16 match on Monday, there is hope she will be seen on the pitch again.
A tweet from the official England account confirmed that “all 23 players are out for training today at Central Coast Stadium”- including Walsh.
Walsh, who moved to Barcelona last summer for a women’s world record transfer fee, played a crucial role in England’s Euro 2022 title win, appearing in all but four minutes of their campaign.
