Today’s news summary – Paper Talk: XL Bullies kill grandmother in horror attack

Monday’s front pages report on several different domestic news stories including the tragic death of a woman who was mauled to death in front of her grandson by what’s believed to be XL Bullies. UK politics also makes the front pages.

The Financial Times says Iran allegedly used two major UK banks, Lloyds and Santander UK, to move money globally and bypass sanctions. Documents reportedly showed British front companies, linked to a sanctioned Iranian firm, used accounts provided by the banks. The US accuses the firm, Petrochemical Commercial Company, of raising funds for Iran’s Revolutionary Guards. The banks stated they couldn’t comment on specific cases but assured compliance with sanctions laws.

    ‘Tragic’ XL Bullies dog attack

Several UK newspapers focused on a tragic dog attack in Essex.

The Daily Telegraph, Daily Mail, and Daily Express extensively covered the incident. The Daily Mirror reported the 11-year-old grandson of the victim witnessed the attack, fleeing in fear as the dogs, believed to be XL Bullies, mauled 68-year-old Esther Martin.

‘There could have been two victims – my nephew has not only lost his mum and grandmother but he had to witness all this violence. He could have been killed as well.’

According to The Times, 8 out of 10 people support “patient passports” storing digital medical records. The proposal emerged from The Times Health Commission’s year-long survey on the NHS, aiming for a technological revolution in healthcare. The Home Office said case workers were trained to be able to establish the credibility of claims about religious beliefs.

The Sun reported an unnamed Premier League footballer entering rehab for laughing gas addiction, highlighting the prevalent use of nitrous oxide among players.
