WWE superstars CM Punk, Nick Aldis and more are praying for Chris Bey after a terrifying accident in the ring.
The 28-year-old TNA Wrestling star suffered a serious neck injury during the company’s tapings on Sunday, with the rest of the show scrapped after he was stretchered out of the arena and rushed to hospital.
TNA said in a statement: ‘Chris Bey is recovering at the hospital following surgery for the neck injury suffered Sunday night and he had an MRI procedure on Monday.
‘He was resting in his hospital room Monday night, joking, talking about Bound For Glory and in good spirits. Chris will be in Detroit for a few days and family members have joined him, along with TNA Wrestling management and wrestlers who are staying in Detroit.
‘Chris is under professional care and supervision, and the local medical staff has been in contact with his personal doctor.’
No further details have been given about the exact nature of the injury, but fans are concerned after social media was flooded with tributes from top wrestlers from around the world.
‘Thinking about @dashingchrisbey. Positive thoughts,’ wrote CM Punk, while WWE veteran Natalya added: ‘Keeping @DashingChrisBey in my thoughts and sending positive energy and love this way.’
Big E – whose in-ring career was halted after he broke his neck two years ago – tweeted: ‘Sending healing vibes & all the best wish to @DashingChrisBey.’
SmackDown general manager Nick Aldis, who also worked for TNA Wrestling, also sent ‘prayers’ for Chris Bey, and Naomi shared the hashtag ‘#Pray4Bey’.
Viral wrestling star Joe Hendry tweeted: ‘We love you Chris Bey. You are one of the nicest people I’ve ever met and an amazing human being. We are all thinking of you.’
And Frankie Kazarian, another TNA Wrestling mainstay, said: ‘I say all the time, and I mean it. The @ThisIsTNA locker room is the best I’ve EVER been a part of.
‘Both in terms of talent and quality of people @DashingChrisBey is the absolute epitome of that. In terms of skill, athleticism and character. He’s all I’ve been thinking about.’
While SmackDown star Michin, who also has history in TNA, said: ‘Sending all the positive vibes to @DashingChrisBay.’
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help with his medical costs, with almost $25,000 raised in less than 24 hours, with Cody Rhodes and Nic Nemeth (Dolph Ziggler) are among the top donors, putting in $2,000 each, while Will Ospreay added $1,000 into the pot.
After starting his wrestling career in 2016, Bey signed for IMPACT/TNA two years later, and has become a huge part of the company’s shows.
As well as stints for New Japan Pro Wrestling, he also made an appearance for WWE in 2019 when he lost to Ariya Daivari on 205 Live.
