WWE has officially arrived on Netflix and some of its biggest superstars are chasing some huge spin-off shows, with LA Knight eyeing up Sydney Sweeney.
The professional wrestling juggernaut has made the move with the streamer landing a $5billion deal, and those in charge at the platform have made it clear they’re looking for more shows aside from Raw, SmackDown, WrestleMania and more.
Speaking exclusively to Metro.co.uk in a sit-down chat backstage at London’s O2, former United States Champion LA Knight said: ‘My first instinct is, we should do something comedic, but I don’t think that would be the right move.
‘I feel like we need to do some sort of – maybe we take it easy on me and get my feet wet with a little maybe action-drama of some sort.
‘And maybe it’s some sort of a mini series, or maybe even a little quick, little quick little movie or something.’
While the 42-year-old wrestler isn’t sure whether he’d rather appear as LA Knight in a ‘crossover universe’ or try ‘a completely different character altogether,’ he wasted no time in naming a potential co-star.
‘Sydney Sweeney,’ he laughed. ‘For me, like acting is not an end all, be all. But if the opportunity presents itself, I won’t say no!’
He’s not the only one wanting to try something dramatic if the chance comes up, as Johnny Gargano – currently one half of the WWE Tag Team Champions with #DIY partner Tommaso Ciampa – teased an epic crossover show.
‘I really enjoyed Nailed It!,’ he beamed. ‘But, like, I really always binge watch whatever the latest true crime show is every month. [And] Stranger Things, absolutely fantastic! One of my favorite shows of all time.’
He chuckled: ‘So any combination of that, if you can figure out a Stranger Things, baking, true crime show and put me as the host of that, let’s do it!’
Some of WWE’s biggest stars see the Netflix move as a potential chance to land their own reality show, with Piper Niven keen to revive The Simple Life with Women’s United States Champion Chelsea Green.
‘We should do a Simple Life with C&P! Because, I mean, I’d like to be a wrestler forever, but I don’t think my body is going to allow that, and I’m not really good at anything else,’ she quipped.
‘I would love that, but it needs to be on the road,’ Chelsea insisted. ‘Maybe we’re wrestling and we’re doing things, but either way, it would have to be on the road, traveling. I feel like we’re busy bodies, you know?’
New WWE Women’s Champion Tiffany Stratton would also like to see herself jump on the reality TV train with her real-life boyfriend and fellow wrestler Ludwig Kaiser.
‘Just like, a day in the life of Tiffany Stratton,’ she suggested. ‘I mean, he’s a part of my daily life. So me and Ludwig would be awesome together on a reality TV show!’
For Londoners Pretty Deadly, they would love to see their on-screen plans for a musical come to fruition after previously handing a script to wrestling fan Lin Manuel Miranda on the front row of a show late last year.
‘We might wait and do our Netflix special,’ Elton Prince teased. ‘It’s a tough one for us, because we’ve gave it to, essentially, the god of musicals. It’s in God’s hands now, you know? So we’ll wait and see.’
He quipped: ‘We gave him our numbers. So Lin, if you’re reading, we know you’re already going to call. But in case you weren’t, please? Please? Please.’
Meanwhile, SmackDown star Carmelo Hayes wants to keep things more grounded, and would like to interview ‘top talents all throughout sports and Entertainment’ and play off his own ‘Him’ nickname.
‘Maybe we call it, “What Makes Him, Him?” Or what makes this person him? The best at what they do,’ he suggested, while opening up on what his answer would be.
‘I just prove it every time,’ he smiled. ‘It’s saying what you are and then backing it up.’
WWE is now available on Netflix with historic content, new shows and weekly live broadcasts starting with Monday Night Raw tonight (Monday, January 6) at 1am.
