WSL: Vivianne Miedema out for weeks after knee surgery
Arsenal striker Vivianne Miedema is set to be out of action for “several weeks” after undergoing “minor knee surgery,” Arsenal manager Jonas Eidevall has said.
Miedema returned to North London on Tuesday, missing the Netherlands’ Nations League game against Germany.
She started their defeat by Spain last Friday but Eidevall said “she would have needed the surgery anyway”.
Miedema, WSL record goalscorer, recently returned to football after being sidelined since October with an ACL injury.
Eidevall said: “She didn’t need the surgery because of the 45 minutes she played against Spain.
“It was nothing that the Dutch team did that complicated this or made the situation worse, it was a situation that needed to be fixed anyway.”
England captain Leah Williamson could be in the Arsenal starting lineup for Sunday’s north London derby against Tottenham.
Willaimson has also only recently returned following an ACL injury. She had to pull out of the latest England squad due to a hamstring injury.
