    Dozens detained at Kazakhstan protests over activists death

    Aljazeera says dozens of people have been arrested in Kazakstan after the death of an activist in jail triggered Kazakhstan protests dozens detained after protesters deathdiplomatic condemnation and calls for anti-government rallies.

    In the capital Almaty, policemen cordoned off the city’s main square and about 40 people were detained. 

    Elsewhere in the city, 26 members of Oyan Qazaqstan, one of the groups that called for a rally, were detained on Sunday before they had a chance to reach the protest site.

    “According to our information, they have not been released yet,” Dimash Alzhanova, one of the groups founding members, told AFP news agency by telephone.

    Global coronavirus death toll surpasses 3,000

    France24 says the number of coronavirus deaths passed 3,000 on Monday, as China reported 42 more deaths.coronavirus death toll

    The deaths were all in the virus epicentre Hubei province, the National Health Commission said, bringing the overall toll in mainland China to 2,912. 

    Health officials also reported the lowest daily tally of fresh infections since late January with 202 new cases. 

    In China, the number of reported new cases has gradually been declining, and there were only six confirmed new infections outside Hubei.

    Emergency meeting as UK Coronavirus cases reach 36

    BBC News says Boris Johnson is to chair an emergency Cobra committee later after the number of UK coronavirus uk Cobra meeting on coronaviruscases jumped to 36. 

    Senior ministers and health adviser will be told that the virus will present a “significant challenge”. 

    But the prime minister will say the government and NHS are well-prepared and will “stop at nothing” to fight it. 

    The official government plan on how to tackle the spread of the virus will be finalised and signed off at the talks. 

    More UK cases are expected to be announced – 13 new patients were diagnosed on Sunday.

    Comedian changes his name to Hugo Boss amid trademark row

    Sky News says comedian Joe Lycett has legally changed his name to Hugo Boss in defiance of the luxury designer comedian changes his name to hugo boss amid trademark rowtargeting small businesses and charities who use the name “boss.”

    He posted a letter on Twitter with the UK Deed Poll Offices’s letterhead, which commits him to “absolutely and entirely renounce, relinquish and abandon the use of my said former name.” 

    The 31-year-old said he will be launching a “brand new product as Hugo Boss,” with all details to be revealed on a new series of his consumer show Got Your Back on Channel 4.
