The Red Hot Chili Peppers have had to pull out of a gig at Inglewood, California
Iconic rock band the Red Hot Chili Peppers have had to let fans down as they ditch a show due to one of the members being injured.
The Californication hitmakers had announced more dates for their Unlimited Love tour, continuing in 2024, just the day before.
Sadly, any gigs for the next six weeks have been scrapped so the mystery bandmate can recover from the unnamed ailment.
Frontman Anthony Kiedis, 61, drummer Chad Smith, 62, bassist Flea, 61, and guitarist John Frusciante, 53, were set to perform at KROQ’s Almost Acoustic Christmas at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, California.
Saturday’s gig had the Red Hot Chili Peppers as its headliner for the annual concert, with Portugal. The Man and Bleachers – fronted by Taylor Swift’s bestie, Jack Antonoff – also performing.
The Behind the Sun hitmakers shared the bad news on social media to their 5.7 million Instagram and 2.6 million X (Twitter) followers.
One of the members had a mysterious injury and needs six weeks to recover
They should be back on top form for their tour next year
The statement said: ‘It is with deep regret that we will not be able to perform this weekend at KROQ’s Almost Acoustic Christmas. A band member was injured, preventing us from being able to perform for at least 6 weeks.’
It wasn’t all bad news for the fans hoping to see the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees as the announcement promised a make up gig.
They added: ‘However, RHCP and @KROQ are excited to make it up to you on March 2nd 2024 at The Forum. So, have a great time this weekend and hang on to your ticket.’
KROQ, a rock radio station, confirmed the follow up gig and wrote on X: ‘Get well soon @chilipeppers. Hang on to your @almostacoustic ticket for entry to a special performance by RHCP on Saturday, March 2nd. More details coming soon.’
The Red Hot Chili Peppers have not given any more information on the injury but it shouldn’t impact the next leg of their tour, which starts again in February.
The Scar Tissue rockers have been touring since 2022, extending the initial 32 date tour as popularity demanded more.
Red Hot Chili Peppers have been active as a group in different iterations since 1983, with Flea and Anthony in from the start.
This tour saw guitarist John performing live for the first time since he rejoined the band in 2019, after leaving in 1992, only to rejoin in 1998 and then leave again to focus on his solo career in 2009.
