Women’s FA Cup results and roundup – ‘Arsenal locked out, Chelsea squeeze by & United avoit upset’

    Tottenham 1-0 Charlton Athletic

Kit Graham, stepping in as a substitute, clinched the lone goal propelling Tottenham past Championship frontrunners Charlton, securing their spot in the quarter-finals of the Women’s FA Cup.

Having suffered a setback with a 1-0 defeat against Manchester City in the Women’s League Cup midweek, Spurs displayed resilience, keeping their aspirations for silverware alive this season.

They rattled the woodwork twice, courtesy of Eveliina Summanen and skipper Bethany England, before finally breaking the deadlock with 15 minutes remaining.

Graham, freshly onto the pitch for just five minutes, seized possession on the edge of the penalty area and unleashed a low shot past goalkeeper Jessica Gray.

This victory puts an end to a three-game winless streak across all competitions and marks Spurs’ advancement to the tournament’s last eight, a feat they haven’t achieved since the 2020-21 season.

‘Mayra Ramirez scores first goal for Blues’

    Chelsea 1-0 Crystal Palace

In a 1-0 victory over second-tier Crystal Palace, Mayra Ramirez, Chelsea’s British record signing, netted her debut goal for the club, securing their passage to the quarter-finals of the Women’s FA Cup.

Ramirez, 24, deftly flicked the ball past Demi Lambourne in the 81st minute, providing the solitary goal of the match.

Although an earlier goal from Ashley Lawrence was disallowed due to offside, the Blues maintained dominance throughout, with Palace unable to pose a significant threat.

Ramirez also came close to scoring again, hitting the crossbar for the reigning FA Cup champions, while Johanna Rytting Kaneryd narrowly missed the target with a shot into the side netting after evading the goalkeeper.

‘Blow for Arsenal as hunt for silverware continues’

    Arsenal 0-1 Manchester City

Manchester City secured their spot in the Women’s FA Cup quarter-finals, dealing a blow to league rivals Arsenal in what has been a challenging week for the Gunners.

With Laia Aleixandri’s decisive goal at Meadow Park, the three-time champions City reaffirmed their status as contenders for the trophy.

Arsenal’s setback against West Ham last Sunday in the Women’s Super League title race, which saw them fall six points behind leaders Chelsea, coupled with their European exit, intensified the sting of this defeat.

This latest loss adds to the frustration for Jonas Eidevall’s squad, who have only managed to secure one trophy in the past five years.

Aleixandri capitalised on a loose ball in the box from a City free-kick, stabbing it home from close range after Khadija Shaw’s near misses with two headers earlier in the second half.

Despite Arsenal’s late flurry of chances, including Kim Little’s touch on a corner that seemed to cross the line but wasn’t awarded as a goal, City maintained their composure and sealed the victory. The chance has led to more calls for VAR to be introduced into the WSL.
