No doubt Insomniac would like to perform a Berserker Barrage on the hackers (Picture: Sony)

Insomniac has finally commented on the hack that revealed footage of its upcoming Wolverine game and staff’s personal information.

Sony-owned developer Insomniac Games has had a tough couple of weeks, as they suffered a malicious hacking attack and were held to ransom for £1.6 million. When Sony refused to pay the ransom, the hackers published most of the 1 million+ files and documents online.

As a result, developers around the world came together on social media to offer their sympathies, while condemning the attack.

Insomniac hasn’t said anything public about the incident until now though, as it reveals what it’s been like on the inside and confirms that the upcoming Wolverine game is going ahead as planned.

The tweet, which is on behalf of the entire studio, states:

‘We want everyone to enjoy the games we develop as intended and as our players deserve.

However, like Logan… Insomniac is resilient. Marvel’s Wolverine continues as planned. The game is in early development and will no doubt greatly evolve throughout development. as do all our plans.’

Insomniac also mentions all the kind messages they’ve received since the attack.

‘Thank you for the outpouring of compassion and unwavering support. It’s deeply appreciated.

‘We’re both saddened and angered about the recent criminal cyberattack on our studio and the emotional toll it’s taken on our dev team. We have focused inwardly for the last several days to support each other.’

The stolen documents include concept art, footage of Insomniac’s upcoming Wolverine game, and personal information of the studio’s staff, which was addressed in the message too.

Insomniac also confirms the hack includes source code from the Wolverine game, with some ‘fans’ having managed to get a version of the game running on PC.

‘We are aware that the stolen data includes personal information belonging to our employees, former employees, and independent contractors. It also includes early development detail about Marvel’s Wolverine for PlayStation 5. We continue to determine what data was impacted.’
