Will trains, tubes, and buses run over Early May bank holiday weekend?

With the Early May bank holiday fast approaching, many of us are planning what to do on our days off in London and across the UK.

It falls on Monday, May 1, giving many people a long weekend – and there are two more bank holidays to look forward later in the month.

But will there be changes to the usual weekend and Monday timetables for trains, tubes and buses?

Here’s everything you need to know about transport around the capital and beyond over the Early May bank holiday weekend.

Will trains be running over the Early May bank holiday?

According to National Rail, there will be changes over the Early May bank holiday weekend on the railways.

Some will be due to major engineering works, while some train companies will make other alternations to their usual timetables.

For example, there will be a reduced service between London Euston and Milton Keynes Central on Avanti West Coast on Saturday, April 29 and bank holiday Monday, May 1, with the line completely closed between these two stations on Sunday, April 30.This is due to major engineering work.

On Sunday, April 30 due to c2c’s engineering work between London Liverpool Street and Barking, services are to be diverted to London Fenchurch Street via West Ham.

South Western railway has engineering work in the Basingstoke area, plus on the line between Virginia Water and Reading, and in Camberley, which will affect services.

Tfl has yet to confirm its London Underground schedules, though trains are expected to run as normal, but the following engineering works may affect your journey:

Bakerloo Line – closed between Stonebridge Park and Harrow & Wealdstone on Saturday, April 29 and Sunday, April 30.

Central Line – closed from Marble Arch to Loughton and Hainault during Friday Night Tube service on Friday, April 28 and into Saturday, April 29.

It will also be closed from Liverpool Street to Newbury Park and Woodford, including Saturday Night Tube, from Saturday, April 29 to Monday, May 1.

The DLR will be closed from Poplar and Westferry to Lewisham from Saturday, April 29 until Monday, May 1.

Elizabeth Line – closed Paddington to Ealing Broadway until 7.45am on Sunday, April 30.

London Overground – closed Willesden to Watford Junction on Saturday, April 29.

It will also be closed on Sunday, April 30 between Euston and Watford Junction, plus Clapham Junction to Willesden Junction until 9.30am, and Liverpool St to EnfieldTown, Cheshunt and Chingford until 10.15am.

The London Overground will also close from Sunday, April 30 until Monday, May 1 from Woodgrange Park to Barking Riverside.

From Monday, May 1 (until Thursday, May 4) it will close from Hackney Downs to Chingford and to Enfield Town and Cheshunt after 10.45pm.

The Waterloo & City line doesn’t run at weekends or on bank holidays.

Will buses be running on the early May bank holiday?

There are some changes to bus timetables from Saturday, April 29 – including routes 35, 40, 62, 145, 294, 345 and 368- and temporary ones on route 13, 113, 253, 254 and 268.

There will also changes to bus stops around Ealing Broadway station – full details of these and the timetable changes are listed on the TfL website.

A Sunday timetable will operate on all day bus routes and the normal Monday night timetable on night buses on bank holiday Monday 1 May.

Routes 327, 346, 347, 375, 377, 383, 385, 389, 399, 424, 467, 470, 497, 549, H3, K4, K5, R2, R5, R8, R10, S3, S4, U10 and X68 will not operate on this day.
