With its first trailer on the horizon, it’s time to talk about when GTA 6 might come out and on what formats.
Rockstar has confirmed the news that every Grand Theft Auto fan has been waiting for: GTA 6 is imminent. Or at least its first trailer is.
A trailer of the upcoming free roaming action-adventure game will be released in early December, confirmed by Rockstar, which means the 10 year wait for a new GTA feels much closer to an end.
But will it be 2024 or 2025? And what do we know about the story? Read on to find out.
Is GTA 6 coming out in 2024?
The short answer is… probably. 2024 has been rumoured as the year for its release for a while now, and considering that the first GTA 6 trailer comes out in December, it’s fair to assume the game will be relatively soon after – at least within 12 months.
More specifically, GTA 6 will likely come out in autumn, as GTA 5 was released September 17, 2013 and Rockstar’s other behemoth, Red Dead Redemption 2, came out on October 26 2018.
But do remember that delays are common in video game development, so no matter what the plans are now they could easily change.
Where can I play GTA 6?
GTA 6 will likely be available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on release and PC six months to a year later, similar to how Rockstar rolled out Read Dead Redemption 2.
The game will certainly not be playable on Nintendo Switch, and while fans have been discussing the possibility of it appearing on the Switch 2, that’s probably unlikely – although perhaps not entirely possible.
How much will GTA 6 cost?
Current AAA games are usually priced at £59.99 or £69.99, and GTA 6 will almost certainly be £70.
When GTA 5 launched in 2013 it was £59.99, and considering the franchise’s popularity, the decade of development, and that GTA 5 was the most expensive video game ever, costing $265 million (£215 million) to make, GTA 6 is not going to be cheap.

What is the story in GTA 6?
Not much is known about the storyline in GTA 6, but we can try to piece some of it together based on what’s been reported in the past.
In 2021 reports said that the next GTA would be set in modern day Vice City. In 2022 Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier wrote that the game would include two protagonists, a woman and a man, influenced by the Bonnie and Clyde story.
This seems to have been confirmed by the GTA 6 hack, which revealed a number of details about the game; enough for fans to create a 60 page document detailing all the leaks and rumours.
