Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc suffered the indignity of crashing of the Brazilian Grand Prix before he even made it to the starting grid.

The Monegasque driver was set to start Sunday’s race from the front row alongside pole sitter Max Verstappen.

However, on the formation lap at Interlagos, his Ferrari bizarrely spun off into the barriers, and though he managed to get it moving again he was forced to pull off to the side and abandon it.

‘I lost the hydraulics,’ Leclerc berated over the team radio.

‘Why the f**k am I so unlucky?! Why the f**k am I so unlucky?!’

Speaking to the media after he returned to the garage, the 26-year-old went into more detail about what caused his retirement: ‘I lost the steering wheel.

‘I went straight because I had no hydraulics anymore. I don’t think it’s a hydraulics problem. I know what it is but I cannot go into too much detail.

‘Then there was an engine thing that made me lock the rear wheels then obviously I spun and hit the wall. I couldn’t do anything.’

His teammate Carlos Sainz suffered a hydraulics issue ahead of the last eace in Mexico City, but Leclerc added: ‘I haven’t gone into details with the guys but what they have seen is completely different and it’s not what happened to Carlos.’

To add to the chaos in Brazil, the race was red-flagged after just one lap after a multi-car crash at the first corner which resulted in Williams’ Alex Albon and Haas’ Kevin Magnussen both retiring.

Due to the red flag, it was suggested that Leclerc could re-join the race if his Ferrari could be fixed in time but as per the regulations, if a car retires out on track and not in the garage it’s out for good.
