Who is Ella Toone? – the midfielder says England will enjoy pressure of World Cup
The England midfielder Ella Toone has been named in the England senior squad for the upcoming World Cup. The Manchester United forward was brought into the senior team for the first time in September 2020.
Under England boss Sarina Wiegman, Toone has become a regular member of the team. She is a popular member of the squad both on the pitch and in the dressing room. She has scored consistently under Wiegman and bagged hat-tricks during the World Cup qualifiers.
She’ll be wearing shirt number 10 for the Aust-New Zeland World Cup.
In a recent interview, Ella Toone said she believes the lioness will enjoy the pressure of heading into the World Cup “with a target on their backs,” following their EURO 2022 success.
“There’s definitely a lot of favourites. A lot of unbelievable teams and a lot of talent. For us it’s taking each game as it comes and not focusing too far ahead. We know there’s a lot of big teams and they will make it hard.
“We don’t know about the distractions and the talk away from it. We’re in our own little bubble. We know it’s going to be difficult.”
