Ever since the news that the Arctic Monkeys had to cancel a gig in Dublin days before Glastonbury, anxiety has been lingering in the air over whether the band will be able to perform as one of the festival’s headliners.

Earlier this week, the group released a statement announcing that frontman Alex Turner was suffering from laryngitis, and so had been ordered to rest.

Amid outrage that the concert hasn’t been rescheduled yet, some have also wondered which artists or bands might have been lined up as replacements for the Fluorescent Adolescent rockers if they’re forced to pull out of their slot on the Pyramid Stage.

It’s been claimed that one band is currently the frontrunners to take their place should their musical talents be needed – the Foo Fighters.

Bookmaker William Hill reckons that the Best of You band, who recently announced a new addition to their ranks following the death of their legendary Taylor Hawkins last year, have 4/11 odds of being called upon.

Next on the list is Pulp, with odds of 11/8, while Watermelon Sugar singer Harry Styles is said to have odds of 4/1 of replacing the Arctic Monkeys if needed.

Next are Coldplay and Blur with reported odds of 5/1, while Britney Spears up next with odds of 7/1.

There’s been speculation that Britney could already be set to make a surprise appearance at the festival to join Sir Elton John on stage during his headline act.

Considering the pair collaborated together on the 2022 track Hold Me Closer, it wouldn’t be too far-fetched an idea.

It has already been speculated that the Foo Fighters could show up at Glastonbury, after the band shared a cryptic note online.

When it was announced that the Arctic Monkeys had to cancel their recent Dublin gig, their statement read: ‘We are extremely sorry to announce the cancellation of Arctic Monkeys’ show at Marlay Park in Dublin tomorrow,’ they wrote on social media.

‘Alex is suffering from acute laryngitis and following medical advice, has been ordered to rest.

‘Alex and the band apologise for the huge disappointment this will inevitably cause to all their Irish fans.’

‘Full refunds will be credited back to the ticket purchaser’s account.’

Nonetheless, there have been no further updates from the band ahead of their scheduled Glastonbury headline performance on Friday June 23.
