Deadliest West Bank strike in decades kills at least 18 in refugee camp
At least 18 people were killed by an Israeli air strike in the Tulkarm refugee camp in the occupied West Bank, according to the Palestinian health ministry. The strike targeted a café where civilians had gathered, reported Palestinian news agency Wafa. The Israeli military confirmed the attack, stating it was part of a joint operation with Shin Bet security services, aimed at killing the head of Hamas in Tulkarm, along with other key militants.
Israeli forces have been increasingly conducting air strikes in the occupied West Bank, a region where violence has surged over the past year, leading to the deaths of more than 700 Palestinians.
Last month UN rights chief Volker Turk said major Israeli operations in the occupied West Bank were taking place “at a scale not witnessed in the last two decades”.
