‘We’re actually getting married after meeting on MAFS – hopefully he won’t make same big mistake again’

Married At First Sight’s Adam Aveling and Tayah Victoria are preparing to tie the knot… again, but hope that they can change one major thing from their TV wedding.

The pair met as strangers on their wedding day, as part of the unique E4 dating series, and instantly connected. During their honeymoon, the pair confessed they had fallen in love, and their relationship continued to flourish after they moved in to an apartment together.

Doing things slightly in reverse, Adam, 28, proposed to Tayah, 27, during the final commitment ceremony.

After leaving the experiment, which aired in 2021, they officially moved in together in Doncaster, and pretty soon they fell pregnant with their daughter Beau.

They are now preparing for a December wedding to make their union legal, and although they have fond memories of their original magical day, they do hope for one major difference.

At their first nuptials, Adam wrongly assumed the bridesmaid was his bride.

In the hilarious moment, Adam said: ‘Oh wow, nice to meet you’ but his error became clear when she immediately sat down – well that is one of the pitfalls of marrying a stranger!

The exchange was loved by viewers and has since been watched on YouTube nearly one million times.

The moment, which is forever in the MAFS history books, is something the couple now laugh about.

‘Hopefully, he won’t make that same mistake this time,’ joked Tayah to Metro.co.uk, who revealed that the bridesmaid is back in her role again.

‘It always pops up on my social media still to this day and people can’t believe it but actually, it’s quite an easy mistake to make,’ added an understanding Tayah.

Adam chipped in: ‘It didn’t happen the way the TV production put it across. The timings were different to make it look more extreme. By the time I spoke to her, I knew she was a bridesmaid.’

As well as the return of the chief bridesmaid – there will be some new additions to the guest list.

The original wedding took place while Covid restrictions were still in place meaning they had a limited number of people they could invite. Although Tayah’s dad made the cut, he decided against attending as he didn’t support the decision.

Although the choice was upsetting at the time, Tayah couldn’t be happier about how it has all worked out.

‘I’m glad my dad boycotted the wedding,’ said Tayah.

‘It’s going to be even more special this time when he sees me in my dress for the first time, and walks me up the aisle.’

Tayah can also forever hold over her dad that she was right to fill in an application form for MAFS: ‘He always says that the show is the best thing I ever done now.’

Aside from the case of mistaken identity and important people missing, they loved their original wedding and even considered choosing the same venue. However, their winter wedding wouldn’t quite work for the outdoor nuptials – we did live in the UK after all.

The self-proclaimed ‘laid-back’ couple did consider a low-key wedding just to make things legal, but they are now opting for a grander affair.

‘We do want to experience the traditional wedding day,’ explained Tayah.

Adam agreed: ‘We’re doing it properly with everyone there. We never got to have the engagement party or celebrate with everyone and we want to do that.’

Despite their unique start the pair now feel like a ‘normal’ couple who met on a dating app. Adam was reminded of their unusual meeting when an episode of MAFS came on when he was away in Newcastle for his stag do.

‘It was weird to think that’s why we were all there,’ said Adam.

‘I never watched Married At First Sight prior to being on it, and I sometimes forget we were even on it,’ shared Tayah.

‘I remember it was lockdown when I saw an advert, and I thought, “What could go wrong?” I love being in love. It’s the best feeling, so I gave it a shot.

‘Although, when I see a walking shot, I am taken right back and remember having to walk up the corridor a hundred times to get all the angles.’

Not many people get to have a practice wedding, and the pair feel like they are reaping the benefits.

‘I’m less nervous this time as we’ve done it once,’ shared Adam.

‘We actually know who we’re going to marry this time so that’s a good thing,’ Tayah pointed out.

They are both excited to reaffirm their connection with Adam admitting he no longer feels married.

‘I definitely felt like we were married on the show. Although the wedding wasn’t legally binding, it did feel real. I even called Tayah my wife after we stopped filming but then it kind of died off.

‘The longer we were detached from the show, we forgot about it and we were fiancés.’

Tayah and Adam’s advice to new MAFS couples is to stick together (Picture: Instagram/tayahvictoria)

Being one of the only surviving couples from the UK version, they have some strong advice for the batch of contestants who are now trying to make a go of it in the real world.

    ‘Stick together,’ stated Adam.

‘Going from living in each other’s pockets to not seeing each other very often is not going to work. You’ve got to take the plunge and keep the intensity.

‘We left the show together and in love, and we wanted to follow each other.’

‘Nothing changed in or out of the experiment. We were just us, being ourselves and we did what felt right. I think you quickly realise whether you want to be together, and we knew whatever environment we were in we’d work because we just clicked,’ added Tayah.

Tayah questioned if everyone is on the series for the right reason (Picture: MAFS)

‘It was always easy between us. We knew within a couple of minutes of meeting.

‘If you have to work extremely hard in the beginning with someone then it’s not going to work long-term. It’s still easy for us now.’

With such a plethora of knowledge on how to make it work, Tayah would consider a role on the series giving advice but has doubts that the contestants who sign up now legitimately want marriages.

‘I do think as the series has come on, you can tell who’s there for legit reasons and who is not.

‘It is going more down the Love Island route, which is a shame as I don’t think MAFS’ target audience likes that. They like that genuine aspect, and don’t like having too much reality drama.’

Married At First Sight UK continues tonight at 9pm on E4.
