Weezer’s Scott Shriner plays at Coachella days after wife’s shooting

Weezer star Scott Shriner returned to stage for Coachella this week – only four days after his wife was shot and arrested by police.

The bassist’s wife, Jillian Lauren Shriner, 51, was shot in the shoulder by officers outside their home in Eagle Rock, Los Angeles after allegedly pointing a gun at cops who were trying to catch a hit-and-run suspect nearby.

After she was ordered to drop the handgun ‘numerous times’, police said Jillian ‘refused, pointed the handgun at the officers, and an Officer-Involved Shooting occurred’.

The police said she fled to her home where she was taken into custody, before being transferred to hospital by paramedics for treatment on the non-life threatening gunshot wound.

She has since been absentee booked for attempted murder and released on a $1million bond.

In the wake of this bizarre incident, husband Scott, 59, returned to the stage for this Saturday’s Coachella.

Scott joined his bandmates as they played a number of fan-favourites for the crowd, including Pork and Beans, Hash Pipe and My Name is Jonas.

For the set, the bassist wore a short-sleeve buttoned-up shirt with blue jeans, a leopard print guitar strap thrown over his shoulder.

After Coachella, alternative rock icons Weezer are also booked for Glastonbury in June, returning after a 30-year absence.

Prior to his Coachella appearance, Scott issued an update on his wife, telling journalists that she was ‘alright’ following the incident.

Blending light and spatial sound, the 360º immersive festival has a stellar lineup including popular artists such as Max Cooper, Jon Hopkins and Tinariwen, as well as the likes of Arooj Aftab and Photay.

‘She’s alright, thank you for asking,’ he told a New York Post reporter when approached outside his Los Angeles home on Thursday.

He declined to give any further details about his wife, but did say: ‘See you at Coachella.’

True crime writer Jillian is the former call girl for Jefri Bolkiah, Prince of Brunei.

She covered this period in her life with the 2010 memoir Some Girls: My Life in a Harem.

In 2023, she published the bestseller Behold the Monster: Facing America’s Most Prolific Serial Killer – based on her extensive interviews with Samuel Little, who confessed to committing 93 murders over four decades.

The author recently revealed how she had undergone surgery for cancer (Picture: Instagram/Jillian Lauren)

Last month, she revealed how she had been diagnosed with cancer and had been through two back-to-back surgeries – including a full hysterectomy.

‘I’d like to thank the Academy, my amazing hair and makeup team, and the lighting designers here at [Glendale Adventist Hospital]. As if they all hadn’t been through enough with the fires right next door! Yes, I have a little bit of the C word y’all. I know a lot of us do,’ she wrote in a post on March 3.

She shares two adopted children with husband Scott, who she married in 2005.
