Weezer bassist Scott Shriner issues statement after wife Jillian Lauren shot by police
Weezer bassist Scott Shriner has given an update on his wife after she was shot by police and arrested for attempted murder.
This week his wife, best-selling author Jillian Lauren, was taken to custody after being shot at by police in a bizarre incident in Los Angeles on Tuesday April 8.
It’s been alleged the true crime journalist, 51, pointed her gun at officers who were trying to catch a hit-and-run suspect, and refused to lower it when asked.
Police said Shriner was shot and fled to her home before being taken to custody.
She was then taken to hospital by paramedics to be treated for a non-life threatening gunshot wound.
The incident began at 3.25pm on Tuesday afternoon, when police responded to a backup request from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) in locating three hit-and-run suspects, who had fled into a residential neighbourhood.
A few days on, Scott has said his wife is ‘alright’ before making a strange plug for his band.
‘She’s alright, thank you for asking,’ Schriner, 59, told a New York Post reporter when approached outside his Los Angeles home on Thursday.
He declined to give any further details about his wife.
However, he added: ‘See you at Coachella.’
During the incident on Tuesday, police were pursuing one of the suspects when they saw a woman, later identified as Lauren, in the yard of a neighbouring home allegedly armed with a handgun.
After she was ordered to drop the handgun ‘numerous times’, police said Lauren ‘refused, pointed the handgun at the officers, and an Officer-Involved Shooting occurred’.
‘She was ultimately absentee booked for attempted murder,’ police added.
A 9-millimetre handgun was recovered from her residence.
Weezer are due to play at Coachella in a few weeks, and are booked for Glastonbury in June, returning after a 30-year absence.
Lauren is the former call girl for Jefri Bolkiah, Prince of Brunei, who she wrote a memoir about called Some Girls: My Life in a Harem.
In 2023 she also published a best-selling true crime book Behold the Monster: Facing America’s Most Prolific Serial Killer, based on extensive interviews she with Samuel Little, who confessed to committing 93 murders between 1970 and 2005.
Her work helped a national task force led by LAPD, FBI, and Texas Ranger officers close many of the cold cases Little was responsible for.
Shriner and Lauren married in 2005. They share two adopted children together.
