Cliff Notes – Watch British comedian’s plane abort Storm Amy landing as he cancels show

    • Comedian Jason Manford had to cancel his show in Belfast due to severe weather conditions caused by Storm Amy, which is producing winds of 95-100mph across the UK.

    • After a delayed flight, Manford’s plane attempted to land in Belfast but was forced to abort and return to Manchester, leading to the cancellation of his performance at the Ulster Hall.

    • Fans have been reassured that their tickets will be valid for the rescheduled show, with Manford expressing gratitude for their support despite the last-minute changes.

A top British comedian was forced to cancel a show at the last minute after being caught up in Storm Amy’s dangerous weather.

The storm, which is set to create 95-100mph winds across the British Isles, has already claimed the life of one man in his 40s in Ireland.

Flights are still operating around the UK in spite of the weather, but planes are having trouble landing and taking off. Some pilots are having to be diverted to other airports.

Caught in the middle of all this was comedian Jason Manford, who flew all the way over to Belfast, only to be flown back to Manchester as a result of the weather conditions.

He was scheduled to play the Ulster Hall in Belfast on Friday, October 3, and flew over yesterday afternoon in preparation for the 2,000-capacity venue.

However, a dramatic video showed Jason’s plane coming in to land, only for the pilot to abandon the descent and try for a go-around (a second attempted landing).

But the go-around was ultimately unsuccessful, leaving Jason with no choice but to head back to Manchester and disappoint fans by postponing the gig.

Jason’s team said on Instagram: ‘Due to extreme weather conditions caused by Storm Amy, the plane that Jason Manford was flying on this afternoon could not land in Belfast and was rerouted to Manchester.

‘This unfortunately means that Jason’s show tonight has been cancelled. Please hold onto your tickets and you will be contacted next week with the date for the rescheduled show.’

The statement concluded: ‘On behalf of Jason, we sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.’

Two hours earlier, Jason had revealed that his flight to Belfast had already been significantly delayed, owing to the weather and the tough flying conditions.

‘On a very delayed flight to Belfast and just after safety demo a woman has told crew she wants to get off! We’re literally about to taxi and take off and she just doesn’t fancy it!’

He then added that he’s ‘seen too much’ of the horror franchise Final Destination to not take the incident seriously, although the plane did land safely in the end.

Dara Ó Briain joked in the comments: ‘Gets a night off, and the plane drops him home. Jason, you are living the dream.’

Jason then shared a video taken by Belfast Live that showed his plane attempting to land at Belfast International, only to gain altitude again and fly off.

He said: ‘Not gonna lie! That was scary! After those women got off too! Premonition. Anyway, really sorry weather has scuppered our show tonight, will be back as soon as possible!’

Jason thanked his fans for the messages of love and support despite the late change of arrangements, with fans reassured that their tickets will still be accepted at the rearranged show.

The postponed show is part of Jason’s ongoing A Manford All Seasons tour, which also hit a few stumbling blocks in August when the comedian was checked into hospital with appendicitis.
