A woman who was excited to tuck into what she thought was a ‘Salt Beef and Emmental’ sandwich from Waitrose was in for a nasty surprise when she took her first bite. The woman took to social media platform X to rage about her experience with a Waitrose Christmas sandwich after excitedly tucking into it while on her way to an event.
Having thought she bought a ‘Salt Beef and Emmental’ sandwich, she was shocked to discover she had been fooled by the packaging that actually read ‘Salt Beet and Emmental’.
The vegetarian sandwich contained a beetroot filling, combined with emmental cheese, mustard, gherkins and salad.
Writing on X, she vented at her mistake. Under the username @Ginger_Tucci, she wrote: “Don’t mean to be dramatic, but this was possibly the worst day of my life. I quickly grabbed this on my way to an event thinking ‘mmm, salt beef & emmental’ wasn’t I in for a nasty surprise?

“I now have serious beef with Waitrose, which is ironic as my sandwich certainly lacked it.”
And while she called it the “worst day of my life”, people in the comments were also fooled by the packaging.
One person wrote: “Took me so long to realise what was wrong with it, I read salt beef over and over before realising it was a T.”
Another said: “I did not understand this for a long time. Someone deserve sacking”. She went on to call it a “crime against sandwich fillings”.
Waitrose has been approached for comment.
