TEAM NEWS #LIONESSES
England breezed through the group stage without conceding a single goal and a goal difference of +14. So far the only real test for the Lionesses has been against Spain in the Quater-finals. Though nearly coming unstuck, England showed off their nerves of steel to claw back a win in the last minutes of the game.Â
But Wednesday’s game saw long periods where the team lacked any semblance of control, and Spain dominated for much of the game.
Toone’s equaliser was a result of England’s graft whilst Georgia Stanway’s extra-time winner reminded us of the talent in the team. It was an ugly win, but a win nonetheless. No doubt manager Wiegman will be expecting more focused minds for the semis.Â
The manager’s substitutions appear to be the right call against Spain, and it’ll be interesting to see if she sticks with her starting XI that has remained unchanged throughout the tournament.Â
Sweden’s route to the semis also flirted with failure in the quarter-final and required a stoppage-time winner to see off Belgium. Like England, they snagged a last-minute win – an ugly game that can only help build confidence in any team.Â
England have failed to beat Sweden in any of their previous three matches, including the World Cup third-place play-off final in Nice three years ago. With that said, there is little to separate these two teams but home advantage might swing it for England.Â

What’s the team news?
The Lionesses have so far stuck with the same starting lineup for every Euro 20202 match, and with no injury worries, manager Sarina Wiegman is expected to do the same again. But Alessia Russo and Ella Toone continue to impress off the bench and could start ahead of Ellen White and Fran Kirby, while left-back Rachel Daly struggled against Spain which means Alex Greenwood could start ahead of her. Despite this, it’s likely Wiegman will stick with her winning formula – and allow the subs to continue having an impact when they come off the bench.Â
Sweden is having some Covid-19 issues – Hanna Glas, Emma Kullberg and Jonna Andersson all missed the quarter-final win after they tested positive. It’s not yet known if the trio will be available for today’s game but if Glas and Andersson are, they will likely start as the two fullbacks. But the remainder of the team is likely to stay the same.Â

PREDICTION
England vs Sweden Prediction
England’s record in semi-finals at major tournaments is dicey but in Wiegman, they have the ultimate tournament manager and this is a side bristling with confidence and self-belief. The Lionesses are a better team than Sweden and should be able to get the job done. England 3-1 Sweden – (The Independent)Â
Another nervy night could be on the cards for the hosts but Sweden’s high press could play into the hands of a team capable of moving the ball quickly and being clinical in front of goal. A 2-0 England win -(Evening Standard)Â
With a place in the European Championship finals at stake, we expect Bramall Lane to play host to a cagey contest, but with the home fans in full support, we think that England will edge out Sweden on Tuesday to book their place at Wembley. We say England 1-0 Sweden – (SportsMole)Â
