Daily Express – US threatens severe response as Iran attacks Israel
The world watched in horror as Iran fired more than 200 rockets into Israel on Tuesday night despite a US warning of a “severe” response, the Daily Express reports.
In its editorial, the paper says “military action must not be divorced from diplomacy.” The Mirror also warns that while international diplomacy is failing we must not abandon hope.
US deploys soldiers to the Middle East as Israel’s conflict with Hezbollah explodes
The Pentagon said the US military is sending a “small number” of additional ground troops to the Middle East as the conflict in Lebanon threatens to escalate into a full-scale regional war.
Pentagon press secretary Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder said in a regular briefing on Monday that an additional batch of US military personnel are being deployed “in light of increased tension in the Middle East and out of an abundance of caution”.
“We are sending a small number of additional U.S. military personnel forward to augment our forces that are already in the region,” Ryder explained, declining to say how many soldiers are being sent.
Fury in Lebanon as one million displaced rage ‘we’ve been abandoned by Iran’
Discontent with Iran is growing in Lebanon as the escalating conflict between Hezbollah and Israel continues, already displacing over one million people and reducing homes to rubble.
Though Iran is known to fund Hezbollah, it has so far been reluctant to intervene, even after Israel launched a ground offensive into Lebanon early on Tuesday.
The streets of Beirut are now lined with displaced people, particularly the famous Corniche seaside promenade in the Central District.
Here, families who have lost everything following days of Israeli airstrikes are left to fend for themselves, and anti-Iran sentiment is beginning to grow.
