UK snow tracker LIVE: Travel chaos as heavy snow blast brings roads and railways to halt | Weather | News |
People in some UK towns and cities – including Liverpool – have woken up to a thick layer of snow this morning and temperatures plunged to an icy -3C.
Several parts of the UK will wake up to snow today
Travel chaos is expected as Britons wake up to snow this morning. Roads and railways are already facing problems due icy temperatures and a heavy blast of snow.
So far, Liverpool has been hit with a huge flurry with Merseyrail activitating its emergency cold weather plan to protect tracks from an ice build up. It comes as temperatures plunged to a chilly -3C in the early hours.
The Met Office has already put in place several yellow weather warnings for snow and ice on Monday, lasting until Thursday. Areas affected include the North West, Scotland, Norfolk and Northern Ireland.
A spokesperson for the Met Office said today: “Today, outbreaks of sleet and snow will move across northern areas, with some heavy snow possible for a time, especially across parts of Scotland. Dry elsewhere with sunny spells, but for all areas it will be another very cold day.”
