Parts of England could be hotter than Ibiza this weekend as a ‘plume of warm air’ brings heat to the UK.
The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has upgraded an alert for hot weather across five regions of the country as a result.
The warnings were initially yellow but have been raised to amber for the West Midlands, East Midlands, East of England, South East and South West.
An amber alert indicates that ‘weather impacts are likely to be felt across the whole health service’, according to the UKHSA.
‘At this level we may begin to see some health impacts across the wider population, not just the most vulnerable,’ a statement added.
It is thought temperatures could soar up to 30°C this weekend, and the hottest day of the year so far could be surpassed.
Further yellow heat health alerts were issued for the North East, North West, and Yorkshire and Humber, with a yellow alert for London saying in place.
