Ukraine war: Two Russian landing ships hit off Crimea, officials say
Ukraine claims to have targeted two landing ships, a communications centre, and other infrastructure utilised by Russia’s Black Sea fleet near annexed Crimea. The Ukrainian general staff announced the destruction of the Yamal and Azov ships.
The Russian-appointed governor of Sevastopol’s port stated that 10 Ukrainian missiles were intercepted. Additionally, Russia launched a missile and drone assault on Kyiv and the Lviv region early Sunday.
According to Mikhail Razvozhayev, the Russian-designated mayor of Sevastopol, the “massive” attack resulted in damage to residential buildings and transportation infrastructure. He urged residents not to publish any information or images.
UK Defense Secretary Grant Shapps commended the strike on the Russian ships, describing it as a “historic moment for Ukraine.”
“In plain English, it means that Putin can no longer exercise safely in the Black Sea, even though the Russian Fleet has operated there since 1783,” Mr Shapps said.
He added that the world “cannot afford” for Ukraine to lose this war, and that the UK’s support for Kyiv in the face of Russian assaults “will remain undimmed”.
