A shooting at a car park outside a McDonald’s restaurant in France has left two people dead and three injured.
The incident took place in Marseille at around 11pm yesterday, on the Chemin du Littoral road which runs along the coast in the southern city.
BFM TV reported that police discovered a car with five people on board, of whom the 23-year-old driver and a passenger, believed to be a man and a woman, had been killed.
Among the others in the vehicle was a 29-year-old man who had been shot in the chest and who remains in a critical condition, the news channel said.
There was also reportedly a woman who lost a thumb in the incident and another man who had been hit by bullet fragments.
Nicolas Bessone, Marseille’s chief prosecutor, said: ‘The five people were in their car in the car park of a McDonald’s when a vehicle pulled up alongside, killing the driver and the front passenger with bursts of fire from a Kalashnikov.’
Bessone said the three men in the car were known to be involved in the local drug trade, while the women had no criminal record.
A police investigation has been launched for murder and attempted murder.
News agency AFP said by August this year, 36 people had been killed in France’s second-biggest city due to a drug-related gang war.
A third person has been left in a critical condition after being shot in the chest.
