Alan Ritchson has revealed that he leads a lifestyle that is sure to take fans by surprise, especially considering he stars in the number one show on Amazon Prime Video.
This month, the actor reprised his lead role in season 2 of the action-packed Reacher on the streaming platform, based on the books by author Lee Child.
Having been cast as the iconic Jack Reacher after the character was played by Tom Cruise in two movies, Alan has scored critical acclaim for his performance.
While some might expect the 41-year-old to live in an expansive mansion thanks to his enormous success, it turns out he, his wife and his children have made a roving home for themselves.
The Smallville star explained that it was ‘hard’ on both him and his family when he was away from them ‘for long stretches on location’ – so they came up with a solution that suited them.
‘Today, my wife, Cat, and I live with our three boys on the road. Cat and I met in high school and were married in 2006,’ he told The Wall Street Journal.

‘Being away from my family for long stretches on location was hard on them and me. So Cat and I recently sold our Florida house and we now live in Airbnbs and hotels while I’m on set. Cat home-schools the boys, who are 11, 9 and 7.’
The way he lives his life with his wife and kids sounds very different to his own childhood, as he explained that his parents were ‘super strict’.
Because of his strong dislike for ‘being controlled’ and his ‘trouble with authority’, Alan ended up getting a job, buying a used Toyota pick-up truck and sleeping on a mattress in the back of the vehicle, before his dad ‘begged’ him to come back home.
Alan made his film debut in the 2006 horror film The Butcher, before seven years later appearing in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire as District 1 victor and returning tribute Gloss.

He played Aquaman in Smallville, as well as starring in Blue Mountain State, New Girl, 90210, CSI: Miami, Black Mirror, Fast X and Supergirl.
In a post shared on Instagram, Alan’s wife Cat explained that every night that her husband was away from home while filming, ‘he would FaceTime us so that he could read to the boys at their bedtime’.
‘It didn’t matter how bloody, muddy, or cold he was… he made his family the priority over anyone and anything else. And no matter what the outside world throws at him, I know he always will,’ she wrote.
Reacher seasons 1 and 2 are available to watch on Prime Video.
