Cliff Notes – Tory MP blasts GMB’s Kate Garraway during fiery David Lammy exchange

    • Shadow Justice Secretary Robert Jenrick used explicit language during a heated exchange with Kate Garraway on GMB, defending the Conservative approach to David Lammy’s handling of prisoner releases.

    • Jenrick’s outburst came after Garraway questioned why he did not directly accuse Lammy of lying about the wrongly-released prisoners, prompting a wave of shocked reactions in the studio.

    • Viewers expressed disappointment over Jenrick’s choice of words, with many criticising the use of swearing as a sign of desperation in political discourse.

Tory MP blasts GMB’s Kate Garraway during fiery David Lammy exchange

Shadow Justice Secretary Robert Jenrick held nothing back in a foul-mouthed quip to GMB’s Kate Garraway during an intense discussion.

The Tory MP appeared on the ITV morning show on Thursday to discuss the heat on Secretary of State for Justice, David Lammy, after two more prisoners, including a convicted foreign sex offender, were mistakenly freed.

Shadow Defence Secretary James Cartlidge gave Lammy the opportunity to confirm the error five times during the Prime Minister’s Questions on Wednesday.

On GMB, Garraway asked why the Tory MP didn’t point-blank call Lammy out about ‘lying’ about the wrongly-released prisoners earlier.

Jenrick posed that the Conservatives were waiting on official word and were offering Lammy the chance to set the record straight himself.

The ITV broadcaster – also joined by Ed Balls – attempted to push back, saying that the reasoning about waiting on confirmation may have also been running through Lammy’s mind, adding he could have been thinking: ‘Maybe I’d better not say.’

At this point, Jenrick harshly responded, declaring: ‘Well, Kate, it’s very early in the morning and your viewers are still having their breakfast but that, I’m afraid, if you’ll excuse my language, is total bulls**t.’

A wave of shocked ‘oohs’ reverberated around the studio with the Celebrity Traitors star saying: ‘Well, don’t swear, don’t swear,’ as Jenrick continued to refute her point, saying the ‘Met Police immediately debunked that’ in his continuing rant.

Later, the TV presenter said about the heated exchange: ‘Mr Jenrick, you made some serious points. I’m just going to apologise on your behalf to children watching because we know they watch this programme.

‘Please don’t swear again because you’ll get us all into trouble.’

Viewers were left unimpressed by the foul-mouthed language, even accusing the MP of trying to stir online controversy.

X user deanbegley wrote: ‘Resorting to swearing is a sign of desperation, embarrassing.’

‘Nothing says “serious politics” like Robert Jenrick swearing on live TV just to go viral. Peak 2025. Not outraged – just sad and frustrated that this is the level we’ve sunk to. We deserve better,’ Dave McPartlin slammed.

Jess CB said his swearing put her ‘right off my toast and jam.’

Byron added: ‘Robert Jenrick woke up and chose violence this morning, bit of swearing on breakfast TV.’
