Ice to see you! (Picture: ITV)
There’s a frosty crossover coming this Christmas, as Emmerdale meets Dancing On Ice.
Legendary ice dancers, Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean, have been cast in the soap, playing themselves in a special festive episode at the end of year.
Filming has taken place at a location in Leeds and the Olympic gold medal winners have reunited on ice to help a well-loved character make a marriage proposal.
The identity of the potentially betrothed couple is being held under wraps for now, but it’s one of a few pinnacle plotlines that will grace the Christmas season in the Dales.
Christopher Dean enthused: ‘It is amazing being here. We have jumped from watching Emmerdale on TV to being in a scene. From the screen to the scene. I’m loving it.’
Jayne Torvill is equally thrilled, saying: ‘I can’t wait to watch the episode that we are going to be in. It will be surreal sitting at home watching it.’
Emmerdale producer Laura Shaw added: ‘We are delighted to welcome Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean as our very special guests to Emmerdale.
‘Torvill and Dean certainly promise to bring the Christmas magic sparkle to the show.’

The skating icons have joined actors Dominic Brunt (Paddy), Eden Taylor-Draper (Belle), James Chase (Tom King), Mark Charnock (Marlon), Roxy Shahidi (Leyla) and Joe-Warren Plant (Jacob) for a smiley picture as they filmed the scenes.
And it’s only fair that the crossover works both ways – Roxy is heading over to the ice when the talent show picks up again in the new year.
When asked why she is taking on the challenge, she quipped: ‘For a new kitchen.’
But she continued: ‘In all seriousness, I do think it’s going to be amazing. I was really excited about doing it to begin with because I get to wear tights, sequins, big hair,’ she added.

‘In my mind, I was visualising myself ice-skating really well and winning. Cut to me signing my contract and I went into an absolute meltdown.’
She follows a number of Emmerdale stars who have been on the show, with her on-screen ex Matthew Wolfenden winning the show during his stint, and TV son Joe-Warren Plant was rising up the ranks until an injury forced him to pull out.
Talk about a family affair!

Gaynor Faye, who played Megan, was also a winner, so the pressure is on for Roxy.
Equally, Torvill and Dean may well feel the same as they hone their TV skills for their Emmerdale cameo.
