A snapshot of the headlines across the European newspapers and media sites.

There’s ongoing coverage of the devastating floods in Spain, as anger continues to grow over the government’s handling of the crisis – and ahead of warnings of more potential floods.

Coverage of the latest from the Russia-Ukraine war is heavily covered across a variety of European newspapers as well as upcoming meetings between European leaders ahead of Donald Trump’s return to the White House in January 2025.

Tourism, crime and fears over football violence tonight dominate the headlines.

Pompeii will introduce a cap of 20,000 daily visitors starting November 15, following a dramatic rise in tourist numbers. Local reports revealed that a staggering 36,000 people visited the site on the first Sunday of October when entry was free. Pompeii, famously preserved under volcanic ash from Mount Vesuvius’ eruption in AD 79, remains one of the world’s best-preserved Roman landmarks.

Warning of torrential rains to the Balearic Islands and the Mediterranean area starting on Tuesday

A new adverse situation threatens Spain this week. It is the arrival of another dana (acronym for isolated depression at high levels) from northern Europe, according to Rubén del Campo, spokesman for the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), which issued a first information note on Sunday to alert the population and the authorities and which launched a special warning on Monday , indicating that the episode is serious. The agency expects “very strong and persistent rainfall, locally torrential, in the Balearic Islands and in the peninsular Mediterranean area” and “abundant rain in parts of the Cantabrian Sea and the central zone” from Tuesday, just when two weeks have passed since the worst dana that has devastated the country so far this century.

Ukraine and Russia barrage each other with dozens of drone attacks

A massive drone strike rattled Moscow and its suburbs overnight into Sunday, injuring several people and temporarily halting traffic at some of Russia’s busiest airports, officials reported. Meanwhile, a huge night-time wave of Russian drones targeted Ukraine. This came after Russian President Vladimir Putin signed into law a pact with North Korea on Saturday night, obliging the two countries to provide immediate military aid using “all means” if either is attacked. The agreement marks the strongest link between Moscow and Pyongyang since the end of the Cold War.

Berlusconi Airport, the TAR rejects the suspension, Salvini: “Lesson for the left”

The TAR rejected the request for a stay of motion to name Malpensa airport after Silvio Berlusconi . “Great satisfaction” from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, led by Matteo Salvini. “It is a lesson for the left that does not win elections and reduces everything to a matter of judicial dispute” note sources from the Porta Pia ministry. In the two rulings dated November 6 and published today, the judges of the TAR of Lombardy reject the joint appeal of the Municipalities of Cardano al Campo, Samarate and Somma Lombardo, which was then joined by that of the Municipality of Milan, against the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport and Enac, for the annulment, with prior suspension of the effectiveness, of the ordinance of July 11, 2024, with which the Director of the Civil Aviation Authority, competent for the Territorial Directorate of Milan Malpensa, had ordered the naming of the Varese airport “in memory of President Silvio Berlusconi”.

Germany’s coalition government collapses – No vote of confidence on Wednesday

The traffic light coalition has failed, and Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) continues to govern with a red-green minority government. The question is: When will Germany elect a new Bundestag? Olaf Scholz will not ask for a vote of confidence on Wednesday as demanded by the Union. This was said by government spokesman Steffen Hebestreit in Berlin. He made it clear that the Chancellor would decide on the date alone if no agreement could be reached with the CDU and CSU. If the strongest opposition force is not interested in an agreement, “then the Chancellor must decide and then ask for a vote of confidence,” he said.
