Alejandro Garnacho hit out at Manchester United’s critics after he scored twice in a 3-2 victory over Aston Villa on Boxing Day.

The Red Devils looked set for another disappointing result after going 2-0 down to Unai Emery’s side at Old Trafford.

But Ten Hag’s side produced an epic second-half comeback, with Garnacho netting a brace before Rasmus Hojlund’s 82nd-minute winner as the Denmark international finally registered his first Premier League goal.

United went into the match without scoring in their last four fixtures, including a defeat to Bayern Munich which saw them crash out of the Champions League and a humiliating 3-0 home loss to AFC Bournemouth.

With the side struggling for goals before their 3-2 win over Villa, United’s attacking players have faced fierce criticism and Garnacho has now responded.

‘I’m very happy Rasmus has got his first (Premier League) goal,’ Garnacho told Amazon Prime.

‘Too many people talk about the strikers at United not scoring goals.

‘But today you saw Marcus Rashford with an assist and we [Garnacho and Hojlund] scored, so we are very happy. It is one of the best days of my life.’

Hojlund, meanwhile, declared himself the ‘happiest man alive right now’ after finally getting off the mark in the Premier League.

After breaking his run of 14 Premier League games without a goal, Hojlund said: ‘It’s been a while but yeah I am the happiest man alive right now. We believe until the end and we showed a lot of character again today.

‘I’ve scored a couple in the Champions League but it’s been a while in the Premier League. Hopefully I can build on it. I am happy for the three of us, the attackers, because today we showed a lot of character.’
