Today’s news summary – Paper Talk
Thursday’s front pages are dominated by coverage of the deaths of dozens of migrants in the Channel. The papers take several different approaches, some highlight the tragedy, others chose to politicise it whilst some papers point fingers at the criminal gangs who “get away with murder”. Most papers are looking for someone to blame.
The prime minister said that “smugglers are getting away with murder”, which is the splash on the front page of the Daily Express.
The Sun calls the crisis “shameful”, writing that French police “idly” watched on as the rafts embarked for the UK.
The Mirror describes the migrant deaths as “a human tragedy”.
The Guardian reports on the deadliest day in the Channel.
The Independent also leads on the migrant deaths in the Channel, where children were among those who died.
Questions are being asked of French police patrol, after migrants drowned making the journey to the UK on a dinghy, according to the Metro.
