Today’s news summary – Paper Talk

Several of Friday’s front pages are dominated by the conclusion of a report into bullying allegations against Deputy PM and Justice Secretary Dominic Raab. The funeral of Paul O’Grady and a SpaceX rocket are splashed on the newspapers.

    Dominic Raab probe

The Daily Telegraph reports that Deputy Prime Minister Dominic Raab will fight to keep his cabinet job following an official inquiry into allegations of bullying. The paper notes that Raab’s allies believe the delay in the announcement of the decision by Chancellor Rishi Sunak shows that the evidence against Raab is not “cut and dry”. The i reports that Raab is confident that the inquiry will show that he has not breached the ministerial code. The Times suggests that officials who have seen the report have described it as “terrible” and believe Raab should be sacked. The Guardian claims that Raab is facing accusations of “dithering” over the review by Adam Tolley KC, which has taken five months.

    Farewell Paul O’Grady

The Daily Mirror reports that the killer of Olivia Pratt-Korbel has launched a High Court appeal against his 42-year minimum jail sentence. Whilst the Financial Times reports that Instagram is cutting jobs at its London centre and relocating staff to New York.

The Daily Star, Financial Times, Metro, Daily Telegraph and Times all feature photographs of a SpaceX rocket blasting off from its launch site just before it exploded.

Several of the papers pay tribute to Paul O’Grady whose funeral took place on Thursday. The Sun and the Daily Star both carry pictures of his husband holding their “beloved dog” Conchita on a horse-drawn hearse. Hundreds of mourners and dozens of dogs lined the route to a church in Kent.
