‘Tax rise to pay for social care’
Thursday’s front pages continue the coverage of the fallout from the vote on a tax raise to pay for social care and the NHS.
The Financial Times says the PM has shrugged off a Tory rebellion to secure the tax rise to pay for NHS and social care plan. The paper says Labour voted against the plan, which it says will hit working graduates the hardest.
The Guardian says the PM has been warned by the care industry his £12bn gamble won’t fix the crisis it faces.
And the Daily Mirror believes there’s little in the proposals to “address the postcode lottery of provision” or the “pay and conditions of care workers.”
The Sun covers fears that the NHS will swallow up the cash with health bosses spending £435m a day by next year.
Senior Tories are angry over the news the NHS will hire “an army” of highly paid executives to head new integrated care boards, according to the Telegraph.

The NHS will launch a rapid rollout of booster vaccinations within the next two weeks, predicts the i.
Whilst the Daily Mirror is one of several papers to carry a warning from AstraZeneca that the booster may be unnecessary and the programme will just pile pressure on the NHS.
‘Britain’s breakout star Emma Raducanu’
Most of the pictures on the front pages is that of Emma Raducanu – the British breakout tennis star who has sailed through to the US Open semi-finals/
The Guardian calls her victory a “fairytale of New York.” The Star says “EMM-AZING” and notes the 18-year-old is the first qualifier to reach the semis in the tournament’s history.
The Sun notes that her “glorious charge” was so unexpected that she’s having to change her flight home.
