In 1933 Hitler came to power
On 5 March 1933, the the National Socialist Party, Nazi Party, won 43.9 percent of the vote, which gave them 288 seats in the Reichstag. Hitler formed a coalition with the National Party (8 per cent). The Communist party won 81 seats.

Boston Massacre in 1770
Harassed by a mob, British troops on this day in 1770 opened fire, killing Crispus Attucks and four others in the Boston Massacre, an event that galvanized anti-British feelings in the lead-up to the American Revolution.

Soviet Premier Joseph Stalin died in 1953
Soviet Premier Joseph Stalin died at age 74 and was succeeded by Georgy Malenkov. Stalin also killed 25,000 people today in 1946 in order to launch his Iron Curtain. Prompting, the then British Prime Minister Winston Churchill to popularise the term “Iron Curtain”— which figuratively describes the events after World War II when the Soviet Union and its dependent eastern and central European allies, sealed itself off from open contact with the West and other non communist countries.

Polish German activist Rosa Luxemburg, who played a key role in the founding of the Polish Social Democratic Party and the Spartacus League, was born in Zamość.
