Thomas Tuchel has admitted that he felt more appreciated at Chelsea than at his current club Bayern Munich.

The Blues sacked Tuchel in controversial circumstances, with Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali deciding to replace him with Graham Potter in September 2022.

It proved to be a hugely unpopular decision with Chelsea fans, who were still chanting Tuchel’s name four months after his dismissal.

Tuchel only spent 19 months as Chelsea head coach but during his tenure the west Londoners won the Champions League, Club World Cup and Super Cup.

The German also guided Chelsea to two FA Cup finals as well as a runner-up finish in the Carabao Cup.

But Tuchel had a frosty relationship with the Chelsea hierarchy, who took over from Roman Abramovich in May 2022, with co-owner Boehly said to have described the 50-year-old as a ‘nightmare’ to deal with over recruitment.

Despite a record of 60 wins, 24 draws and 16 defeats – with a win percentage of 60 per cent – Tuchel was sacked, but in a new interview with ESPN, he has revealed that he felt more appreciated at Chelsea than at German club Bayern.

Tuchel arrived at Bayern in March last year as they went on to land the Bundesliga title.

Asked if he felt more appreciated in England than Germany, Tuchel said: ‘Yep. Pretty simple question. I feel we are very critical with each other in Germany, especially with players and coaches.

‘It is very hard to escape. There is a picture and this picture is basically the picture for years and years. I felt more appreciation in England, yes.’
