This Morning editor claims former stars using Phillip Schofield scandal to get revenge after ‘toxic’ accusations: ‘Scores are being settled’

This Morning editor Martin Frizell has insisted ‘scores are being settled’ amid the Phillip Schofield scandal after show was hit with ‘toxic’ claims.

ITV has been in turmoil after Schofield confessed to having an ‘unwise but not illegal’ affair with a young runner on the daytime show.

Several of This Morning’s former presenters have accused the show of having a ‘toxic’ culture behind the scenes, including Eamonn Holmes and Dr Ranj Singh.

The TV medic and personally claimed he was ‘used less and less’ on the show after raising concerns with the broadcaster’s bosses, while Eamonn, 63, called This Morning’s management ‘toxic’.

Former guests Jodie Marsh and Kerry Katona have also been vocal about their experiences on the sofa, with the former Atomic Kitten singer saying she was ‘left suicidal.’

And This Morning’s former head of news Emily Maddick said she quit over the show’s ‘toxic and sexist’ culture and also claimed she was banned from communicating with Holly and Phil.

But Martin has hit back at claims the show is ‘toxic’ when asked directly by Sky News on Saturday.

He said: ‘Read between the lines. I think there are some scores being settled.’

Martin said he worked with ‘mainly mums’ and they were fearing for their jobs in the wake of the scandal although he had reassured them.

‘This is the 23rd day now being on the front page and it’s tiring. They worked all through Covid brilliantly. They’ve worked all through this putting a program out for two and a half hours a day. And I just think we just need a bit of respite now,’ he continued.

Martin also insisted he had no concerns over the external review being conducted by a barrister to investigate the facts surrounding Phillip’s departure from the broadcaster.

The TV exec confirmed on Thursday the findings of the review will be made public.

In response to Dr Ranj’s ‘toxic’ claims, a spokesperson for ITV previously told Metro.co.uk: ‘We are sorry to read Dr Ranj’s post today. At ITV we are fully committed to providing every opportunity for anyone who works with us to raise any concern or comments they may have.

‘Following a complaint made by Dr Ranj, we appointed an external and independent advisor to carry out a review. This external review found no evidence of bullying or discrimination.

Metro.co.uk has previously contacted reps for ITV and Schofield for comment.
