Aldi has reclaimed the crown as the cheapest UK supermarket, knocking Lidl off the top spot.
According to this month’s Which? report, Aldi is once again the cheapest supermarket – with an average basket total coming in at £76.77.
Every month, the consumer group looks at the price of 131 groceries and household essentials at different retailers to compare the most and least expensive.
This time around Lidl has been relegated to second place in the rankings – with an average shop coming it at just slightly more expensive than Aldi, at £77.56.
Whereas Asda took third place (£84.42), Tesco claimed fourth position (£87.42), and Sainsbury’s scooped fifth (£87.79).
The most costly is Waitrose at £97.39 – where a basket is £20 more expensive than Aldi.
Ocado was named the second-most expensive in this month’s rankings (£93.40), followed by Morrisons (£89.54).
But this isn’t the only recent win for Aldi.
The beloved supermarket was also named the cheapest place to buy a Christmas dinner. Looking at the cost of all the festive must-haves including turkey, pigs in blankets, and Christmas pudding, Aldi was found to be 4p cheaper than Lidl and £18 cheaper than the most expensive supermarket.
