Take a look at a picture of The Blue Pool and you’d be forgiven for thinking you were admiring the stunning scenery of New Zealand or Canada.
While you can’t take a dip in the lake, you can take a stroll around it – an approximately 3km circular trail.
As you amble along the relatively easy walk, you might be able to spot some impressive wildlife – it’s home to grey squirrels, rabbits and badgers, as well as some rare birds and reptiles.
Walkers have previously spotted nightjars, green sand lizards and even snakes. The area is also home to Sika deer.
The lake started life as a clay pit, which was dug by hand and became disused just before WW1. It flooded with rainwater, and later opened as a nature reserve.

Now, it’s a popular spot in the South West for families and day trippers looking to get away from busy city life, and spend some in the great outdoors.
It’s famed tropical-looking blue waters are thanks to clay particles suspended in the water, which defract the light and make the lake seem almost turquoise.
While it’s not completely free to visit, it is pretty cheap. Adults (over 16) can visit for just £7.50, while kids cost £3.75. Children under five go free.

While Dorset locals may have been long-been visiting the Blue Pool, it’s a new discovery for many.
A travel influencer, who goes by Jade H online, recently posted about the stunning pool on TikTok – and the comments soon came flooding in.
‘Ooft, amazing,’ wrote one impressed commenter. ‘Absolutely beautiful,’ agreed another.
