Thierry Henry sends Premier League title warning to Arsenal: ‘I’m not getting carried away’

Thierry Henry has explained why he is refusing to get ‘carried away’ with Premier League leaders Arsenal and their fantastic start to the season.

The Gunners’ best ever start to a league campaign has seen Mikel Arteta’s side move two points clear of defending champions Manchester City.

Arsenal have only dropped points twice this season – in September when they lost to Manchester United and last weekend when they drew to Southampton.

Despite his former club’s sensational form, Henry is not letting himself get ‘carried away’ and says Liverpool’s inability to keep pace with Man City in recent seasons should serve as a warning to Arsenal.

‘It’s 11 games, you celebrate the title after 38 games, not before that,’ Henry told CBS Sports. ‘That’s me, I have always had that mentality.

‘What we are talking about right now with Arsenal is hope. Manchester City can talk, Man City can be loud because we have seen it before with them and we know what it takes for a team to stay with them.

‘Look at Liverpool… twice they tried to maintain the rhythm of Man City but couldn’t do it. So, let’s see what’s going to happen to us.

‘I won’t get carried away. But we have hope and I have a lot of hope at the minute.’

Arsenal entered Sunday’s Premier League match against Southampton on a run of eight straight wins but surrendered a one-goal lead to draw 1-1 at St Mary’s.

£50m summer signing Gabriel Jesus admitted Arsenal were ‘a little bit upset’ to drop points but urged his team-mates to remain ‘calm’.

‘Everyone is a little bit upset because we know we could win the game and get the three points,’ the Brazilian striker said.

‘I think they played good, but we were better than them. We give them a lot of easy balls and then we don’t score the goals with the chances we create.

‘Now is the time you know everyone is going to talk about us, about our performance; I just want to say to the team to be calm.

‘We are going to come back strong, play our football, like we started the season and everything is coming back to normal.

‘Sometimes you drop a little bit, but you have to realise and wake up. That’s what we have to do.’

Arsenal continue their Premier League campaign against Nottingham Forest on Sunday but first have a Europa League game against PSV to focus on.
