The White Lotus star Theo James said a nude scene he filmed for the second season had to be ‘toned down’ after it revealed just a little too much.
After things fell apart for a group of wealthy vacationers in Hawaii last season, this time around a new group have headed to The White Lotus resort in Sicily for some rest and relaxation, but each come with a lot of excess baggage.
One of those hotel guests is Cameron Babcock (Theo James), a successful businessman on vacation with his wife Daphne (Meghann Fahy).
In the first episode a scene unfolds where Cameron strips down and is completely starkers, however Theo said the original take was scrapped because it was a little bit too crude.
‘The initial version we shot was way too much,’ Theo said in an interview with ET.
‘So, we did a more subtle version. They toned it [down].
He also revealed that the reasons behind Cameron letting it all hang out might not be as innocent as it first seems.
‘It’s interesting, [because] at first… we don’t know whether it’s deliberate or [if] it’s accidental. But it reveals itself, Theo teased.
No stranger to getting his kit off on screen, the British actor has previously done so in shows like The Time Traveler’s Wife and Sanditon.
‘It is in my contract that I’m not allowed to do anything without being completely naked,’ he joked.
He also added that getting naked in front of the camera ‘felt natural’.

He then teased that later in the season, audiences will become aware that ‘there’s a purpose to it’, but that he also wouldn’t be the only one living la dolce vita.
‘It’s funny ’cause we’re all kind of naked. It’s a holiday show, really,’ he said.

But as his co-star Meghann said, it was never ‘arbitrary’.
‘It’s always character-driven. It’s always, you know, moving the [story] forward.’

Other hotel guests this season are played by actors including F. Murray Abraham, Michael Imperioli, Adam DiMarco, Aubrey Plaza, Tom Hollander and Jennifer Coolidge, who is reprising her Emmy-winning role as Tanya from the first season.
The White Lotus starts on October 31 on Sky Atlantic and NOW.
