A winner from The Wheel has revealed how the show was adapted for him as a blind contestant.

Toby recently blew viewers away when he defied the odds to walk away with £45,000 on Michael McIntyre’s hit gameshow.

The player – who went fully blind at the age of 16 – was helped in the final round by radio DJ Sara Cox, who assisted him with a question on art, later declaring his prize money ‘life-changing’.

Now, Toby has praised the BBC for being understanding of his disability.

The TV star took to social media, where he frequently posts videos about life as a blind person and dismantles stereotypes to his 241k followers.

‘I’ve been asked a lot what the BBC did to make my experience as a blind person much better. Honestly, they were absolutely brilliant,’ he began in a TikTok video.

‘Firstly, they brought in an external member of staff to be my guide for the day, off the set and on the set, and they allowed me to go around the set beforehand to get my bearings.’

Toby continued: ‘They even let my girlfriend come with me, just to make me feel safe, bless them.’

The influencer and footballer was also full of gratitude for ‘absolutely incredible’ host Michael.

‘He read out all the questions twice, made sure I knew where all the celebrities were and what topics they had. He even described what was going on while the wheel was moving, which was actually really funny.’

Toby said a ‘big part’ of answering a question under pressure is being able to look at it and take in the possible answers, which he wasn’t able to do.

‘Obviously, I can’t do that but the BBC did offer me a braille question sheet.

‘I don’t read braille, unfortunately, but the thought was really, really sweet.’

He concluded: ‘Massive shoutout to the BBC. They made my day really easy and enjoyable.’

Toby won everyone’s hearts while on The Wheel, thanks to his witty sense of humour.

At one point, he had the celebs in stitches when tasked with answering a question about rugby, with YouTuber Chunkz as his expert.

Clearly not knowledgable about the sport, the vlogger said: ‘Never watched a game of rugby in my life, never played it…’

Before Toby chimed in: ‘I’ve never watched anything, mate! So it’s all good’, earning a ripple of laughs from the audience.

As for his final question, he correctly answered: ‘Which of these artists has won the Turner Prize in the 21st century?’, which was Grayson Perry.

‘It’s all on you this one,’ Toby told Sara. ‘Because I have no idea.’

    ‘Blind people don’t like art.’

He shared that he wished to spend his prize on paying off his student debts as well as funding a new car for his girlfriend, who has to drive him everywhere.

The Wheel continues Saturday on BBC One.
