Most of us could recognise Becky Hill’s voice a mile off, as the pop star has made a name for herself as a chart-topper with hits like Remember, History, and My Heart Goes.
But, do you remember where she came from? As Becky actually started out as a contestant on a well-known singing show.
Yes, the pop queen garnered a legion of fans after she appeared on ITV’s The Voice in 2012, during the show’s first UK series.
Now 28-years-old, the then-teenager impressed the judges with her powerful first audition in which she covered John Legend’s Ordinary People.
Just how far did she make it, though? Did Becky actually win?

Becky was part of Jessie J’s team during her time on The Voice, after the Price Tag hitmaker turned for her blind audition, as well as will.i.am, who was the only other coach with space in their team.
She progressed to the battle rounds and sang against Indie and Pixie by performing Beyoncé hit Irreplaceable, which earned her a spot in the live shows.
It might come as a surprise, however, that Becky didn’t actually place first in her series, as she only reached the semi-final (we say ‘only,’ semi-final is still a big deal) where she was eliminated.

But, that certainly wasn’t the end of Becky, as she’s gone on to become, arguably, the most successful former Voice contestant.
In 2014, she became the first (and only thus far) contestant from the show to bag a UK number one single wit Gecko (Overdrive) with Oliver Heldens.
She’s also won best dance act at the 2022 Brit Awards, delivering an emotional acceptance speech.

‘This was fan voted for and in the two weeks that people could vote for, I have never been so heart-warmed, I don’t even know if that’s a word, by all of my fans who just wanted to see me do well and support me. Thank you so much for making this a possibility for me,’ she gushed.
‘I love dance music, I have been a little drum and bass raver since I was 12 years old, I love dance music, to be up against people like Raye, Joel, Fred, Calvin is an honour for me. It’s been 16 years since they had a dance category and I am so honoured to win this award tonight.’

She thanked her manager who ‘funded me when I was 18, just off The Voice and I had no money’ and who also supported her after she was ‘dropped from a record deal.’
Becky released her debut album, Only Honest on the Weekend, in August last year, and it peaked at number seven on the charts.
The Voice airs Saturday on ITV.
