As 2023 begins to crawl toward its warmer months, us Brits are thinking about that dreamy summer holiday where we can rest and recharge.
The cost-of-living crisis is impacting our travel plans, and this year, 75% of Brits are planning to book a staycation rather than jetting abroad.
Luckily, the UK is home to some stunning holiday destinations, that can truly make you forget you haven’t actually left home soil.
To give you some staycay inspiration, Sykes have released their top 2023 staycation destinations based on booking data.
And coming in at number one? Britain’s largest county, Yorkshire, has nabbed the top spot.
Steeped in history and peppered with dramatic landscapes, Yorkshire has something for everyone – from bustling cities like Leeds and York, to quaint little seaside towns like Filey and Scarborough.
On average Brits will take three UK breaks in 2023, so where else made the top ten?

Cornwall took the second spot on the list, and with more than 300 beaches and a famously mild climate, it’s not hard to see why.
The Scottish Highlands and Islands placed third, perfect for the 28% of staycationers looking for lakes and mountains – and any Nessie spotters, of course.
Rounding out the top five is Cumbria and Northumberland.

North Wales and the Isle of Wight closed the top ten for staycation hotspots this year, so if you fancy summiting Mount Snowdon or exploring Snowdonia National Park then you’ll be in good company.
If you’re venturing to the Isle of Wight then why not go in search of the dinosaur remains and fossils in areas like Compton Bay and Yaverland Beach.
And it seems staycationers are looking for open spaces and beautiful landscapes, as the capital placed 13th on the list. And while there are no shortage of things to do in London, it’s certainly not the cheapest option – especially since 56% of staycationers are preparing to be more budget conscious while they are away.
Cambridgeshire, Central Scotland and Somerset round out the top 20 of staycation hotspots.
